Viral Sequencing

IDEA lab performs viral sequencing for strain identification and origin tracing in events of viral disease spreading in humans or wildlife. several workshops were conducted from 2017 to educate and train experts in sequencing and data analysis.

We use a simple cost-effective and reliable sequencing method – Oxford Nanopore technology. Lab members were trained at RKI, Germany on COVID-19 sequencing on nanopore technology in early 2020.

Training session on handling highly pathogenic viruses. Mobile glove boxes provide a greater level of safety for the research scientists who handle these agents.

Newly established IDEA Laboratory at the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo. It provides a biosafety level 2 facility with separate areas for handling reagents and template DNA.
